IDW Publishing is celebrating Valentine’s Day with some news on a collector’s edition of Weird love pulp comics in a bi-monthly homage to sick and twisted romance from the 1950’s. Read on below for more information.
From The Press Release
Happy Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air and it smells WEIRD! It must be because IDW Publishing and Yoe Books! have shacked up again to collect the most sexy, bizarre, sick, twisted, politically incorrect, kinky “romance” comics of the 1950s and beyond in WEIRD Love.
“Amazingly in the repressed 1950s and the anything-goes 1960s in some so-called ‘romance’ comics, there were some stories jaw-dropping sick, perverse, strange, kinky, twisted, and by today’s standards horribly politically incorrect. Only some kind of depraved person would now reprint them,” says Craig Yoe, “So, I am very excited and proud to be reprinting these gems!”
The aberrant spawn of our weird love will be released into the world this May. The bi-monthly comic, (and we hope you aren’t prejudice against bi-monthlies), will publish such luridly illustrated pulp comics classics like “Love of a Lunatic,” “I Fell for a Commie,” “I Liked Older Men,” and “There’s No Romance in Rock ‘n Roll.” More bizarro stories will include “I Was Too Beautiful,” “I Was A Pickup,” “I Joined a Teenage Sex Cult,” not to mention “You Also Snore, Darling!” These are sure to elicit a fair amount of “OMG-I-Can’t -Believe-This!” moments, we promise.
This full-color collector’s edition which begins the WEIRD Love series “ends” with a pre-code comics ode to the female derrier(!). No wonder the censors wanted this stuff banned! Sure to be a must-have big-buzz comic—and it’s bargain-priced! Who says love isn’t cheap?
