It was announced a few months ago that Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and the executive producers of the mega-hit AMC series will be bringing a spin-off series to life in the near future. Kirkman has previously stated the new WD series will be an entirely new cast and have nothing to do with the previous series and be set somewhere else other than Georgia. Rumors are circulating about the new series possibly being a prequel of sorts. Read on for more info.
TV Line is reporting, AMC has promised that its in-the-works Walking Dead spin-off will shed light on a new, previously unseen corner of the zombie apocalypse — perhaps one where the living outnumber the undead.
The buzz on the series in development is that is might be a prequel, one that would delve into the beginning of the zombie apocalypse and the effort to contain it.
In a recent interview with IGN, series creator Robert Kirkman — who is shepherding the spin-off along with fellow Walking Dead EPs Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert — confirmed that the new series will be set in a “different location” and feature “completely different people,” adding. “It definitely won’t be set in Georgia… It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.”
Keep in mind the series is in the early stages of development and much can change in the creative process. AMC is looking for a 2015 launch of the series. Keep it here to Horror Society for all the latest!
Well, I hope the setting (or filming, at least) is near Charlotte, NC, so I can work on it!
