For those who might not be familiar with this project, let me clue you in. A WolfCop trailer was entered into the Canadian CineCoup film competition along with 91 other prospective films as a way for independent filmmakers to develop, market and finance their feature films with the help of social media. A two minute trailer which you can see below has been filmed in which to enter the CineCoup competition in which 92 films were entered. Filmmaking teams applied to CineCoup with a two-minute trailer then advance through a gamified selection funnel that’s designed to package their projects and build fan support on the CineCoup social web platform. The films do not exist aside from the trailer, and if victorious, get $1 million dollars to film the project and are guaranteed a release in Canadian theaters.
According to newspaper Metro Regina, filming commenced Sunday at McNally’s Tavern and will shoot in and around Regina for the next 2 1/2 weeks with a crew of 60 and 45 extras.
“It’s fast, 17 days. But it’s about the amount of time that independent filmmakers get to work with in this modern era,” Bill Marks, Toronto-based executive producer of the horror-comedy and head of production for Cinecoup, told Metro at McNally’s amid the cameras and activity that will continue for 2 1/2 weeks.”
The production will use mostly Saskatchewan actors, and studio and location sets in the Regina area.
“We’re in a forest out in Moose Jaw. We’re in a barn about 20 minutes out of Regina. We’re at this bar here in Regina today,” Marks explained, adding that it’s a bonus to keep the production in the area where the concept was born.
“There’s a non-cash equity in working at home, in terms of knowing the places, knowing the people and bringing in that extra support from the community.
WolfCop is a high concept feature film from the twisted minds of writer/director Lowell Dean and the Echolands Creative Group. WolfCop will be a movie experience that will leave you howlin’ for more!
Directed by Lowell Dean (13 Eerie) and starring Leo Fafard.
Plot Synopsis
It’s not unusual for alcoholic cop Lou Garou to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, but lately things have taken a strange turn. Crime scenes seem oddly familiar. Lou’s senses are heightened, and when the full moon is out, he’s a rage-fueled werewolf. WOLFCOP is one cop’s quest to become a better man… One transformation at a time.
