According to The Wrap, IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to writer-director Joe Begos’ “Almost Human,” which made its world premiere in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Graham Skipper, Vanessa Leigh and Josh Ethier star in the movie, which was produced by Begos and Ethier of Channel 83 Films and Anthony Ambrosino of Ambrosino/Delmenico Films.

“Almost Human” will also screen at this year’s Fantastic Fest and Sitges Film Festival.

Story follows a quiet rural town in Maine that becomes a raging inferno of axe murders and alien abduction. After Seth (Skipper) witnesses his best friend Mark vanish in a flash of blue light, many in his small town believe he is to blame. But when a string of murders shake the town, Seth sets out to find out if Mark has returned.

“I’m so excited to be under the same roof as some of my favorite genre films of the past few years like ‘Maniac,’ ‘Kill List’ and one of my personal favorites from this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, ‘The Station.’ I couldn’t be more excited about the prospects of my film and working with IFC Midnight to get it in front of as many genre fans as possible,” said Begos.
