Not too long ago, classic Japanese actor Akira Takarada who starred in the original 1954 classic Godzilla was campaigning for a part in the upcoming big-budget American Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards. Principal photography started last week in Canada and apparently the producers heard Mr. Takarada and his fans appeals and decided to cast him in the new film. There was even an official Facebook page called Legendary Pictures: Cast Akira Takarada in the new Godzilla movie to help in the campaign.
According to the Facebook page, Akira Takarada had a brief cameo and his scene was already shot on the first day of principal photography. It’s also reported that his scene was the very first scene shot for the film symbolizing the link to the original Godzilla film.
Well played Legendary Pictures and Gareth Edwards, it was truly a class act.
Gareth Edwards will direct from a script by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Ken Watanabe will join previously cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston.
Godzilla is slated for a 3D release on May 16th, 2014.
