The indie home invasion horror/thriller You’re Next was picked up by Lionsgate way back in 2011 and then was put on the back burner when Lionsgate and Summit merged. Yesterday, You’re Next screened at the SXSW film festival which marks the beginning of Lionsgate’s campaign to create buzz for the film’s August 23rd theatrical release.
According to Deadline, Sunday night at SXSW Lionsgate finally began its long campaign to build You’re Next into a potential late summer hit. Adam Wingard’s slasher pic was the toast of the 2011 Toronto Midnight Madness line-up.
But Joss Whedon‘s Cabin In The Woods had its debut at SXSW last year following an even longer delay and went on to make a modest $66.4 million opening in April. Lionsgate, however, is releasing You’re Next on August 23 in what insiders see as the more advantageous frame.
You’re Next is directed by Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S, The ABCs of Death) and stars Sharni Vinson, Nicholas Tucci, Amy Seimetz, Joe Swanberg, AJ Bowen, Ti West, and Barbara Crampton.
Plot Synopsis
The Davison family comes under attack from a terrifying group of sadistic murderers during a family reunion getaway. Barricaded in their secluded vacation home, they fight off a barrage of axes, crossbows, and machetes from both inside and outside the house. However, the masked killers didn’t count on Erin (Vinson), the young girlfriend of the eldest Davison son whose mysterious past has made her very difficult to kill.
