In a new casting update for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sequel, we’ve gotten word that Keri Russell (Dark Skies) has signed on be the female lead in the film. The cast of this ‘Apes’ sequel is looking pretty impressive as Russell will join already cast Gary Oldman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jason Clarke.
Look for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to hit theaters on May 23, 2014.
According to Variety, Keri Russell will take the female lead in Fox’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” opposite Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee and Gary Oldman.
Matt Reeves replaced Rupert Wyatt, who had directed 2011’s franchise reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” in October.
The casting represents a reunion for Russell and Reeves from the series “Felicity,” which starred Russell and ran for four seasons from 1998 to 2002. Reeves co-created the series with J.J. Abrams and directed several episodes.
Produced by Chernin Entertainment, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is set in an apocalyptic future more than a decade after “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide. Script is penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
