Review: Gitchy

“Gitchy the clown, he don’t say much. But he likes to tickle, he loves to touch.”

Clowns are almost always insanely creepy. Ya know, with the face paint that hides any true emotion and always wanting to show you a “special surprise.” Imagine my terror to find that there is a short film out there about a mysterious clown that tickles people to death! Yes, that is exactly what Gitchy is about – a clown that stalks a particular set of people with the hopes of tickling them to death.

Gitchy is written and directed by Thomas Norman with assistance from Lenny Rivera. The horror-comedy stars Michael J. Brown, Stefanny Cano, Greg Gale (Camp Dead), Liz Walsh (“Celebrity Close Calls”), and kick-awesome, up-and-coming actor Randy Memoli (Sheriff Tom vs. The Zombies).

As I’ve already stated, Gitchy is clearly a horror-comedy mashup. It’s also, at least partially, some sort of fetish piece. According to the internet, tickling is actually quite the popular sexual fetish. And Gitchy the clown clearly demonstrates the traits of a “tickler,” especially when it whips out the whip cream or starts sucking on some toes. Ew…

Now let me very clear – Gitchy is not very scary, it doesn’t have much gore or nudity (actually none, if I remember correctly), and the production quality is just that of an indie film. But what it does have is that awkward quality that draws you in, like when you can’t help but look at a car crash while you pass it. I’m not saying Gitchy is a car wreck, but that’s the best metaphor I can use to describe it. Gitchy is awkward, weird, freakish, and just a little crazy, but it’s also awesome, entertaining and especially original.

Check it out if you get the chance!
