Steve Hudgins and his guerilla filmmaking team at Big Biting Pig Productions are back. This time, the Big Biting Pig takes on a haunted house story with Spirit Stalkers.
The “Spirit Stalkers” are a gang of paranormal investigators with their own “Ghost Hunters” style TV show. Led by Reuben (played by Hudgins), the team is looking for something big to help the show with its ratings after a disappointing season in which nothing but easily debunked abnormalities have become the norm.
Meanwhile, a woman named Gloria Tomlin (played by BBPP’s P.J. Woodside) with a history of mental illnesses is faced with ongoing disturbances in her house. Not knowing whether it’s her imagination getting the better of her or if the house is actually haunted, she desperately seeks help. When Gloria meets up with the “Spirit Stalkers” team, things appear to take a turn for the better but instead take a turn for the worst.
While I enjoyed their last film The Creepy Doll a little more, BBPP’s Spirit Stalkers is still a very entertaining horror film with scares, shocks, and some blood spilling. Hudgins, Woodside and the rest of the cast perform well and the film has vibes similar to that of old school haunted house films with a dash of the psychological terror found in some Japanese supernatural thrillers.
Overall, Spirit Stalkers is a fun ghost picture that delivers the chills, thrills and spills and carries the Hudgins/Woodside team’s unique storytelling method.
Big Biting Pig’s DVD release of Spirit Stalkers contains an audio commentary, deleted scenes, bloopers, and trailers.
