Gary Lockwood at Sci-Fi Spectacular on May 9th By Brian Kirst
Gary Lockwood, perhaps best known for appearing in Stanley Kubrick’s classic 2001, will be the special guest at Movie Side Productions’ 3rd Annual Sci Fi Spectacular on May 9th – starting at noon at the Music Box (3733 N. Southport Avenue) in Chicago and running until the wee hours of the morning.
While Lockwood was also a matinee idol of sorts (appearing in a well regarded children’s costume epic and several television shows), he also has a fairly distinguished horror pedigree. Besides, appearances in such television scare flicks as The Ghost of Flight 401 and Terror in Paradise, Lockwood also worked with the much missed William Girdler (Grizzly, Abby, The Manitou, Day of the Animals) in the action adventure epic, Project Kill and contributed a mayoral performance in Jeff Burr’s (Leatherface, The Offspring, Pumpkinhead 2, The Devil’s Den) fun n’ quick Night of the Scarecrow. Appearing with Christi Harris (Night of the Demons 2) and Martine Beswick (Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde), Lockwood adds much heart and distinguished energy to the tale of a small town being brutally decimated by a vengeful stuffed spirit.
Besides, 2001 (followed by a Q and A session with Lockwood) several horror-science fiction hybrids will also be screened at the Spectacular, including Aliens, The Incredible Shrinking Man and The Fly.
Tickets are $20 pre-sale (available at Laurie’s Planet of Sound and at www.ticketweb.com) and $24 the day of the show. Movie Side Productions generally goes all out to make their events truly fun, memorable and successful and the 3rd Annual Sci Fi Spectacular should undoubtedly prove to be more of the same.
