[REC] (2007): Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSER
Directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza made a Spanish film in the style that The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, and Quarantine (which is the U.S. remake of the film in review). All three of the aforementioned films made me nauseous. The shaky camera and in-focus/out-of-focus lensing drove me nuts, gave me a headache, and forced me to take “breaks” during the viewing of all three films. Now, with that viewpoint in mind, I still liked [REC] immensely. I…

Frankenstein (1931):Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSLER
This is Director James Whale’s CLASSIC! I really enjoyed watching this film, again, years later. It was so nostalgic for me. I remember watching it when I was a wee little lad, sitting 1 foot away from the t.v., glued to it and in total awe and terror as to what the monster would do to the little girl he found. That scene of Frankenstein’s monster and the little girl from the village sitting by the lake and…

Let the Right One In (2008): Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSLER
Director Tomas Alfredson has blown me away with his indie vampire flick, Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in)(2008). I really loved this film. Keep in mind, though, it is Swedish and does contain subtitles. I know that may sound like a “bummer” to most of you, but I guess that is the price you have to pay to watch this incredible tale of Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant), a frail and nerdy…

P2 (2007): Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSLER
P2 was directed by Franck Khalfoun and this was his directorial debut. You may have noticed him in Alexandre (Andre) Aja’s Haute Tension (High Tension-USA) as an actor. He is also directing the upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night remake. Oh boy, everyone knows how much I LOVE remakes! BLAH! Anyways, if Aja is working with him on that project, it should be good, if not awesome. I love Aja’s work!
Speaking of Alexandre Aja, he is also the writer and producer of P2.

This film was directed by Chris Sivertson, who is the writer for the upcoming Wicked Lake (2008) and co-director of Toolbox Murders: As It Was (2003). Alexander S. Brown sent me a copy of his book Traumatized and it kept me on my couch the whole weekend with my nose buried in his 15 fabulous tales. This is a smorgasboard of stories to tempt your sensory taste buds with. I say this because there is a story about every topic there is- from witches, demons, and hell, to a nasty bout with sushi! But here is the thing, even though they are topics we’ve…
