PRODUCERS KAUSH PATEL & DAVE HASTINGS HAVE FINALLY FINISHED POST PRODUCTION ON THE NEW HORROR ANTHOLOGY ‘THE HOUSE OF SCREAMING DEATH’, A CHILLING NEW QUARTET OF TERRIFYING TALES STARRING CLASSIC BRITISH ACTOR IAN McNEICE AS THE MYSTERIOUS ARCHITECT, A CHARACTER WHO HAS A FEW DEMONS TO SHARE OF HIS OWN!
After revealing McNeice’s presence in a massive viral campaign last April that concluded with the release of a brand new trailer, the team have continued to work on putting the final touches to the film with editor Sam Woodhall who also oversaw some of the film’s visual FX as well as reuniting with local composer Matthew Calvert, from the team’s previous Award Winning film Checking In, who came in and has worked on a deliciously dark and macabre score that harkens back to not only the likes of James Bernard, a staple of many Hammer Horror productions, but also the likes of Christopher Young (Hellraiser).
“We all have jobs around the project, so we didn’t want to rush this at all,” says co-producer Kaush Patel. “People have been asking us for months about when the film will be finished, and we’ve always said, when it is as perfect as it can be within our limited resources as independent filmmakers. It has taken us four years to make this film a reality, so we are very protective of it as well as proud of all the cast and crew,” continues Patel.
Equally, producer Dave Hastings praises the cast and crew who “are all wonderful, and spending the last year seeing all their hard work, both in front of and behind the camera in the edit suite has been an absolute pleasure. The grading, the lighting, the music, the special FX, it has just been an absolutely wonderful experience seeing all these components come together like they do here. As an independent filmmaker, and for a film that has cost £4,000 to make overall, the dedication, the passion and the love that has gone into this project has been overwhelming”.
Despite the film costing just £4,000 to make, Patel makes note that the figure should not put people off, or just dismiss the final film as merely amateur. Instead, it should actually encourage people to want to see it more, to see what has been achieved with so little, especially within the struggling confines of the UK film industry.
Additionally, early incoming reviews have proclaimed the final cut very favorably, with Steve Green, from Darkside Magazine calling the film “an ambitious homage to the heyday of horror, impressively shot with a true eye for the creepy atmosphere of its titular location, a house full of dark shadows and even darker secrets!” while celebrated Hammer and Classic British Horror Historian Bruce Hallenbeck, has excitedly asserted that the film has “restored style and grace to the horror film!”
The House of Screaming Death will now be entering the film festival circuit around the globe, and will also be receiving its local press screening at the infamous location it was shot on and around, the amazing Manor House in West Bromwich, which doubled as the fictional and sinister Bray Manor, home of The Architect. As well as this, it will also be receiving its first ever Birmingham premiere at the upcoming Fear-fest on Sunday May 28th organised by esteemed horror writer and journalist Steve Green, while the first ever screening will be at a cast and crew premiere’ that will be announced very soon! Plans are also being made for other local and nationwide screenings, so keep a look out, as The Architect would dearly like to pay you a special visit!
The House of Screaming Death is now aiming for a mid-late 2017 release. It was filmed in and around both Walsall, Sandwell and Staffordshire areas in the West Midlands, UK, with huge support from the local councils.
