It goes without saying that lucrative sales will greatly increase the chance of a horror film sequel going into production, but I really want to urge the HorrorSociety readers to go out and get The Final Girls. The Final Girls has become one of my most favorite releases of the year, effortlessly mixing horror and comedy against a fun cast and Jason Voorhees-esque serial killer. Unfortunately, the film failed to crack the Top 20 DVD’s chart during its first week of release, meaning that maybe this film isn’t getting the visibility it deserves. The film did, however, release a full VOD release a few weeks before the disc distribution, so that may explain the lack of physical sales. I urge you… If you enjoyed The Final Girls on VOD, please consider purchasing a DVD copy. With your help, we can ensure that Sony finances a sequel!
At the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival in September, director Todd Strauss-Schulson was invited on stage for a Q&A following the screening of The Final Girls. He was, of course, asked about the potential of a sequel being produced. In reference to The Final Girls II, Strauss-Schulson divulged that an idea has been passed around and that one of the major plot points would be the reveal of Max’s (Taissa Farmiga) father. He also stated that seeing the film in theaters during its limited release in October, streaming it on VOD and purchasing a DVD copy would greatly alter the chances of seeing The Final Girls II, obviously. His urging, as with mine now, is to help spread the hype with strong word of mouth and to help really push sales. The more profitable, the more of a chance Sony and Stage 6 Films will make The Final Girls II.

“When Max and her friends reluctantly attend a tribute screening of an infamous ’80s slasher film that starred Max’s late mother, they are accidentally sucked into the silver screen. They soon realize they are trapped inside the cult classic movie and must team up with the fictional and ill-fated “Camp Bloodbath” counselors, including Max’s mom as the shy scream queen, to battle the film’s machete-wielding, masked killer. With the body count rising in scene after iconic scene, who will be THE FINAL GIRLS left standing and live to escape this film?” – Vertical Entertainment
