It’s hard to classify this as news, because it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that Howl of a Good Time is the recipient of a “Best Short Film” nomination at the 2015 HorrorHound Cincinnati Convention and Film Festival. Ever since I interviewed one of the film’s stars, Tamara Glynn, as the cast and crew were about to head into production, I’ve had no doubt that Howl of a Good Time was going to resonate with horror fans. I’ve felt this way for three reasons.
1. Howl of a Good Time is written and directed by Patrick Rea, a film festival marvel and distribution earning creator with his feature Nailbiter in 2013. He’s won a dozen awards in his career. It’s what he does. It’s what he’s good at. 2. Howl of a Good Time is the big come back of Tamara Glynn, who most fans will recognize as Samantha Thomas from Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. She’s achieved somewhat of a cult status from her role in the #1 1989 feature and fans are dying to see what she’s capable of now. 3. Howl of a Good Time is about a horror loving little girl who tries to break into a movie theater for a late night screening of “Foaming at the Mouth II.” Quickly it becomes clear to her that this isn’t your average movie screening. As you will see in the trailer below, the film has an old-school nostalgia that will really hit home with older horror fans.
Speaking exclusively with Tamara Glynn about this short’s nomination, she commented: “I am honored to be nominated right out of the gate after waiting 26 years to make my return. It’s been well worth the wait! HorrorHound Cincinnati 2013 was my first ever convention appearance and it’s surreal to have my on screen return and behind-the-scenes debut screen where it all started. Congratulations to all of the other nominees and as far as I’m concerned, we’re all winners! We all know how tough it is to make a film from conception to hitting the big screen. Thank you so much, HorrorHound, for the nomination!”
