With Christmas and other religious holidays just around the corner, I am sad to report that Billie Whitelaw has passed away.
Speaking exclusively with BBC, her son confirmed that Whitelaw died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at a nursing home in London. She was 82-years-old, but my what a life she was able to live!
Billie is most known by horror fans for playing Mrs. Baylock in 1976’s The Omen. The film was a box office smash hit and even won an Oscar. The plot revolves around an American ambassador who is unknowingly raising The Devil’s son, The Anti-Christ. Mrs. Baylock is the sinister nanny hired to watch over Damien and she appears to know more than she lets on.
Whitelaw’s other appearances in film and television include “The Secret Garden” in 1952, Othello in 1955, You’re A Long Time Dead in 1958, “Time Out for Peggy” from 1958-1959, I Promise to Pay in 1961, The Dark Crystal in 1982, “Born to Run” in 1997, and Hot Fuzz in 2007.
She was a 2X BAFTA Winner.
All of us here at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to her family, friends, and fans. She was truly one of a kind and one Hell of a lady!
