Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: Emily Sewell-Smith

1082699_10100564624405356_234543571_n“Emily came from a big family with small town roots. She began a life in the arts at the early age with the encouragement of her relatives. Feeling at home in the limelight, she continued her passion beyond high school to study acting at the college level and hasn’t looked back since. Emily is a unique one to say the least and has a difficult time keeping a serious face for any candid photo. Though she is new to the horror scene, she finds herself to feel very comfortable among the strange and fellow self-proclaiming weirdos. Look for more of her in the future because this geeky and goofy gal has just begun.”*

Location: I live in Dayton, Ohio.

1. How did you get into the industry?

I’ve been acting since I was thirteen. Most of my previous experience has been with Musical Theatre. I truly started out with dance when I was 2, which I credit to my Aunt. She is the driving force in my life that has instilled a passion of the arts in all capacities. Thus, I went on to study Musical Theatre at Wright State University (also in Dayton) for a few years before realizing that I wanted to purse acting more as a hobby than my actual profession. Right now, I take on projects in my free time, when I have free time, and am currently working on finishing my degree (Finally!).

2. What Scream Queen inspired you most?

What a great question! I think my all time favorite would be Sissy Spacek. She’s still just as chilling as Carrie even though I’ve seen the film a million times now. However, most recently I’ve been following Vera Farmiga. She’s just incredible as Norma Louise Bates, which I feel deserves a mention. Her work on “Bates Motel” never ceases to impress me. The dynamic of her range in every line makes her performance simply flawless. She brings her character to life in such a deeply disturbed yet humanizing way that I don’t think another performer could touch. What a talented actress! I can’t wait to see what she does in the future of the series.

3. What are the next couple projects you are working on?

This past weekend (7/26) I filmed a short called “Ladies Night” for the upcoming “Watch This” collection to be released by Concept Media. I’m going to be filming another short for the collection this weekend called “Summon.” The characters I play are very different; I can’t wait to see the contrasts. It’s going to be interesting to watch it in its entirety not only because of portraying two such dissimilar roles but also to see my fellow actors in their scenes. “Watch This” is going to be a surprise to me not unlike any other viewer. I’m really looking forward to it and hope to get a chance to work with this production team in the future.
