It looks like January-February is another killer month for horror films. Usually the top spot is held by October, but this winter season is holding its own. For the second week in a row a horror film will be the #1 movie throughout American cinemas. Last week the exorcism film starring Anthony Hopkins, The Rite, napped the top spot with $18.1 million in revenue. The Rite has sold $25.2 million so far and will probably land at #6 in the box office. This week the top spot will be stolen by the college dorm-mate from Hell film, The Roommate. The Roommate will earn a little over $17.1 million by the end of today.
Also, Saw 3D was the third most purchased DVD of last week with 213,000+ copies bought and a gross of $3,415,000. Resident Evil: Afterlife and Piranha 3D also remained in the Top 30 with sales of $560,000 and $445,000.
