Brain Damage sent me a bunch of screeners and Abe’s Tomb was one of them. It’s a total low budget independent flick about a town that is becoming over ridden with blood sucking vampires. Saber the chief of polices daughter is home and ready to roll some vampire heads with her huge sword. She might be a tiny little thing but in this she totally kicks ass.
Abe is a wicked vampire who lives in this darkened cave in the rocks. If you go there and ask him for a wish he’ll help you. But the consequences the askers receive is always something horrible, no matter how they try to phase the questions so he can’t somehow turn their wish against them. In between scenes it would fade into the next like symbolizing a new chapter was headed our way.
It was a crafty little story that had some turns in it that I liked. It wasn’t too predictable so that made it fun as well. It isn’t something my friends would sit thru since they don’t feel that independent is as good as mainstream cinema. This is a mistake made by many people, there are so many good titles out there that are never seen because the publicity wasn’t on TV or radio.
I thought that Abe’s Tomb was a well told story and liked that the town was being threatened to extinction because there are fangs everywhere. Special effects are a bare minimum but they manage to fit in the film perfectly without knocking it down any notches. Please don’t expect an Oscar award winning film because it isn’t. What it is…is a great way to spend a Friday night when your home alone.
