First Eight Minutes of Women’s Studies

TaraandDaveWOODBRIDGE, MARCH 18, 2008—Ningen Manga Productions will premiere the fulllength trailer for it’s upcoming feature length film, Women’s Studies, during a panel at Horrorfind Weekend in Adelphi, Maryland on Saturday, March 29 at 12:15 PM. Attendees of the panel will also get a sneak peek at the first eight minutes of the highly anticipated horror drama.

Moderated by Jen Tonon of Pretty/Scary.net (https://www.prettyscary.net), the panel will also feature a Q&A with Women’s Studies writer/director Lonnie Martin, producer and lead actor Cindy Marie Martin, actor Tara Garwood, and cinematographer Aaron Shirley.Currently in postproduction, Women’s Studies tells the story of Mary (Cindy Marie Martin), a pregnant grad student and women’s rights activist who along with her friends becomes a "guest" of a group of students led by Judith (Tara Garwood) at the RossPrentiss Women’s Academy, a college for women where female empowerment is taken to murderous extremes.

“I can’t wait to get this film in front of an audience”, says Cindy Marie Martin. She thinks a lot of people will be surprised. “It has just enough of a modern horror element to satisfy the horror fanatic, but it’s not a slasher picture. We’ve really tried to make a smart film that speaks to current events and pokes some fun at the stereotypes of gender and feminism. The story and characters are rich in Lonnie’s script and though it’s a very profemale undertaking with numerous women involved in the process, we haven’t taken ourselves too seriously in bringing the story to life. There’s a whatif cartoon/fantasy element to Women’s Studies, but at the same time, it’ll tweek your brain and make you think twice about the women in your life.”

The film also features Judith O’Dea, best known for her role as "Barbra" in Night of the Living Dead. O’Dea plays Mary’s employer Gayle Hamlin, a U.S. Senator who may or may not have a mysterious link to RossPrentiss.

“Independent filmmaking truly amazes me,” says O’Dea. “If I may wax poetic for a second, it’s where excruciatingly long hours, shoestring budgets, and incredible perseverance forge wonderfully creative and talented people’s dreams into reality. That was my experience on Women’s Studies. It couldn’t have been better. God, how I LOVE youth!

Lonnie and Cindy Martin’s Ningen Manga production team and screen talent gave everything they had on every shot. It didn’t matter what time it was. Working with good people like that energizes me to the max. I can hardly wait to see the results of everyone’s efforts. Thanks, Lonnie and Cindy, for letting me bring Senator Hamlin to the screen!”
