Micro Budget Horror Begins Shoot

Friday February 29th 2008, 8:44 am by DrGore

logo-nwvmThis week, ‘Salvage’, one of the three films commissioned by the Digital Departures initiative, begins shooting on location in Liverpool.

The Digital Departures scheme involves three films being funded (£250,000 per film), made and premiered in Liverpool as part of the 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations. The scheme was devised by Northwest Vision and Media, with its partners Liverpool Culture Company, BBC and the UK Film Council. Salvage is the debut feature from Lawrence Gough, written by Colin O’Donnell and is produced by Julie Lau with associate producer Alan Pattison. The film features a British cast lead by Neve McIntosh, Shaun Dooley, Dean Andrews and Linzey Cocker.

The horror film centres on what happens when a storage container with mysterious contents washes ashore.

The residents of a cul-de-sac are plunged into a horrifying world of violence, terror and paranoia.

Quarantined by the military and ordered to stay indoors, a single mother must overcome all the odds to save her daughter.

REVIEW: Angst

Wednesday February 27th 2008, 5:04 pm by DrGore

Angstkey small

Review by AngryPrincess

Recently I received a nice sized package with a bunch of MTI videos including the title Angst. Reading the back I discovered the story was about a girl who had a very personal problem. You see every time poor Helen has sex her vagina sucks the invading partner right up inside and they disappear forever. Now reading over what I just wrote I know there has to be someone out there thinking I am totally insane.

Am I a pervert? Maybe, since I thought of how I haven’t seen a freakishly good flick like this since seeing Freeway with Reese Witherspoon and Keiffer Sutherland way back when. These two films have nothing in common besides being a shockingly good find. Fiona Horsley plays Helen a charming but abnormal girl with that serious problem that won’t allow her to have a decent sex life.

When it was hungry you hear its cries of hunger and the pain would grip her to the point where she would have to sacrifice some slob to silence it all. Will Helen ever be able to have a normal life? Dennis, who is in love with her and wants to be with her follows her after she leaves on a train to search for her. On his wild goose hunt he meets Sophia and her twin sister who he falls in brief desperate love with until an unfortunate accident ruins it all for him.

Maybe you need a sick sense of humor like me- no really you do because I don’t think my dad would get into this but my mom sure would get a kick out of it. It’s all a matter of what you can handle. I can’t stress to you how I sat there the whole time loving every sick twisted turn it would take. I think I will be telling everyone I know that they have to try this baby on for size! It’s definately different!

10/10

REVIEW: The Haunting Of Rebecca Verlaine

Wednesday February 27th 2008, 1:13 pm by DrGore

hrvReview by AngryPrincess

Finally a decent movie that had plenty of moments that snuck up and made you jump in your seat or where ever else you might be vegging out to watch this. The Haunting Of Rebecca Verlaine was just what the doctor ordered, a reviewer does get tired of watching the same old things. Bad movies are like kryptonite to superman; they drain you and almost kill you with their same stories only told by a different producer.

Rebecca lived at the Verlaine farm with her father and a bunch of other hippies. One night someone comes and brutally murders everyone in the house but her. Don’t get me wrong she was attacked but for some reason she manages to stay alive. Her Aunt and Uncle adopt her and she grows up unknowing who she really is, until scary flashbacks occur as her brain tries to filter out the truth.

The ghosts of the hippie commune victims were pretty gory and added to an already spooktacular atmosphere. There was lot’s of blood and gore for all of us out there that aren’t happy till the red spills. It kept me interested for the entire 91 minutes which is a great feat in the movie watching biz these days and I am far from kidding. Independent or big release company’s aren’t pumping out any newness.

If you like a tale of the supernatural, ghosts or even cannibalism Rebecca’s Haunting is one of the 2004 releases you’ll need to get. I wasn’t thinking this would be as good as it was. I mean it’s not going to blow you out of the water completely but I’ll tell you this much, they put in a great effort to make this film presentable and not seem like something that was thrown together for a quick release.

Horror Hut Productions

Wednesday February 27th 2008, 8:46 am by DrGore

horror smlSo, Horror Hut is looking for some films and filmmakers for a new online show they are working on. Its sort of like Monstervision only with Independent Artists. So any help would be great! If you want the chance to be featured on a show, or want your film promoted even more let Pat (HorrorHut) know about yourself.

There are several themes to the shows, and for the first one they are looking for films that have anything and something to do with Janitors, Cars/Machines coming to life, or Misquitos! Sounds crazy, but I know I have seen a few like that already, and I know there is more of them like that out there.

So if you or your movie can fit any of these topics, or you have anything you would like to send him, by all means, let me know here: Contact Me Just send me your contact info and you movie plot, and I can pass it along to them ASAP!

Or go here… http://www.freewebs.com/horrorhutproductions/ and let Pat know about your films!!

Thanks

Beyond the Grave 04 Credit Mario Ladera-Lockheart Filmes2Lockheart Filmes, in association with V2 Cinema, is at work on the set of Brazilian horror-fantasy feature BEYOND THE GRAVE (aka PORTO DOS MORTOS) since February 14. Writer and director Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro (who’s also producing with Isidoro B. Guggiana) and crew are currently filming in the city of Porto Alegre.

The principal photography is expected to end March 4. “BEYOND THE GRAVE is gradually becoming organic as a movie should be. Now it has its own life. It’s very much alive”, says the director. A team of forty professionals is working to bring the film to its full form.

After the first days of shooting, BEYOND THE GRAVE is mirroring its singular concept, according to director Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro. “The purpose of creating something really different is being fully achieved”, believes the filmmaker.

“It is turning into a very original and surprising film”.

The storyline follows the unstoppable hunt for a supernatural serial killer by the obsessive cop Lockheart (Rafael Tombini) in the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Brazil.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins

Tuesday February 26th 2008, 8:09 pm by DrGore

Top Image”Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” the fourth installment of the ”Terminator” franchise, will begin filming in early spring at the Albuquerque Studios.

”Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” the fourth installment of the ”Terminator” franchise, will begin filming in early spring at the Albuquerque Studios. The film recently began loading into the facility and will occupy the entire lot until the fall of 2008.

This is possibly the biggest production of 2008 and the city of Albuquerque warmly welcomes everyone from the production, not only to our city, but to our world class Albuquerque Studios.
The film is scheduled for a North American theatrical release May 22, 2009. Warner Bros. Pictures is handling all U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for the film, with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group (SPWAG) handling international distribution rights in all territories (excluding Korea and select Mideast territories). The Halcyon Company acquired all ”Terminator” franchise rights in May 2007.

”Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” will be the first film in a new ”Terminator” trilogy and will mark the latest installment of the multi-billion dollar ”Terminator” franchise. Moritz Borman, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek will produce. McG will direct the film from a script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris (”Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”). Christian Bale will star as John Connor.

On ”Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” coming to Albuquerque Studios, COO Nick Smerigan said, “When building this facility, this is exactly the type of project we envisioned having and we look forward to working with Derek and Victor of The Halcyon Company and McG and the entire cast and crew.” Added Jeremy Hariton, the studios’ Sr. VP, “Working with this group in bringing this project to Albuquerque has been a great pleasure. This is an exciting time for Albuquerque Studios. To have the opportunity to host a production, cast and crew of this magnitude does not come along often and it speaks to the quality of the studio and the great film incentive programs put in place by the state of New Mexico.”

On the latest project coming to Albuquerque Studios Mayor Martin Chavez said, “This is possibly the biggest production of 2008 and the city of Albuquerque warmly welcomes everyone from the production, not only to our city, but to our world class Albuquerque Studios.”

Mercedes McCambridge dies at 85

Tuesday February 26th 2008, 7:01 am by DrGore

Mercedes+McCambridgeMercedes McCambridge, who won an Oscar for her screen debut in 1949 and later provided the raspy voice of the demon-possessed girl in The Exorcist, has died. She was 85. McCambridge died from natural causes on March 2, the Rev. Joe Carroll, a friend and the founder of a San Diego charity for the homeless, said Tuesday. She had lived in the La Jolla area of San Diego since the 1980s.

McCambridge’s strong, radio-trained voice made her an ideal film portrayer of hard-driving women. She received the Academy Award as supporting actress in 1949’s All the King’s Men, playing a reporter who was the nemesis of the populist Southern governor, Willie Stark.

Broderick Crawford was named best actor for his role as Stark, a close replica of Louisiana’s Huey Long, and the drama was honored with a best picture Oscar.

Necrosis Finishes Principle Photography

Indie Film ‘Necrosis’ Starring James Kyson Lee (Heroes) George Stults (7th Heaven) and Tiffany (80’s Pop Icon) Finishes Principle Photography

Unknown Productions Inc. has finished with 3 weeks of principle photography with an ensemble of talented actors including James Kyson Lee (NBC Heroes), George Stults (7th Heaven) and Tiffany (1980’s Pop Icon). The cast also includes Horror Movie Icon Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) and character actor Mickey Jones (Penny Dreadful) in the Psychological Horror Film, Necrosis.

Unknown Productions Incorporated has wrapped production on the Independent Psychological Horror film, Necrosis. A few pick-up days and loose ends is all that remains left before their Post-Production journey begins. The Necrosis story follows a group of friends at an isolated cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains who become trapped by an epic snowstorm and are haunted by ghosts from the Donner Party. Writers, Robert Michael Ryan and Jason Stephens, wanted heavy snowfall and they got it. The cast and crew survived 2 weeks of relentless snowstorms on location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to get the footage.

Filming mainly on-location, Necrosis didn’t have the “studio” money for snow machines and high end special effects so they relied on Mother Nature.

“We got 12 feet of snow in 10 days” comments Director Jason Stephens, “there were days when I woke up and looked out the window and thought…. if this film wasn’t self-financed, I would have called in and said - ‘nope, snowing too hard today, not filming…..’ but with our budget, we had to film everyday. We got it done and it looks incredible. There is no way anyone will doubt that the characters were trapped by a snowstorm. We actually were!”

The Lake Tahoe area received record amounts of snowfall during production. The Necrosis production dealt with blizzard conditions including winds gusting over 70 miles per hour and snowfall amounts measuring in the multiple feet per day instead of the typical inches per day.

Information on the cast, crew, production elements, behind the scenes photos and several storyboards are available on the dedicated web site, www.necrosismovie.com

The movie is also listed on the IMDB at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1131743/

Additionally a myspace film page has been created at www.myspace.com/necrosismovie

BOTCHED Premieres on DVD May 13th

Monday February 25th 2008, 8:49 am by DrGore

BOTCHED-01Heads will roll… literally, when Warner Home Video releases BOTCHED on May 13th. In what can only be described as a ride that will crack you up, gross you out, and make you think twice about ever stepping into an elevator again. BOTCHED will be available on DVD for $19.97 SRP. Order due date is April 8, 2008.

Click the Pic!

In the spirit of horror comedies like Army of Darkness, Shaun of The Dead, and An American Werewolf in London comes BOTCHED, a film that takes funny and gore to the next level. Having recently won best feature at the New York City Horror Film Festival, the film’s star Stephen Dorff (Blade, World Trade Center, and currently filming director Michael Mann’s Public Enemies with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale) also took home Best Actor honors as well. Jamie Murray (Dexter, and the BBC series Hustle) and Bronagh Gallagher (The Commitments, Pulp Fiction, and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace) are also along for the ride along with an ensemble cast of memorable characters.

From producer Steve Richards, who also brought you The Matrix: Reloaded, House on Haunted Hill, and the upcoming Guy Ritchie film RocknRolla and first time filmmaker Kit Ryan comes the story of Ritchie Donovan (Stephen Dorff), a professional thief whose luck turns from bad to worse. The only survivor from a heist gone terribly wrong, he is forced to take the rap and is sent to Russia to steal a priceless antique cross locked in a safe on the penthouse floor of a Moscow skyscraper. Unfortunately, Ritchie’s luck runs out during the robbery, and he and his Russian accomplices are trapped by police, forced to take hostages, and seek refuge on the building’s unlucky and unused 13th Floor where things get bloody.

It’s worth noting that direct-to-video horror DVDs are continuing to experience national record year-over-year growth, with sales exceeding $62M in Fiscal 2007. In addition to its publicity campaign, the release of BOTCHED will be complimented by highly targeted, cutting-edge national online, viral and print advertising campaigns.

Black Lagoon Star Ben Chapman Dies

Monday February 25th 2008, 8:45 am by DrGore

DSC01646Ben Chapman, the actor who played the monster in “The Creature from the Black Lagoon,” passed away Thursday at Tripler Hospital.

Chapman was 24 years old when he got the part at Universal Pictures that turned him into a horror film icon.

“The Creature from the Black Lagoon” came out in 1954.

The film looks pretty cheesy now, but back when I (KGMB9’s Terry Hunter) first saw it as a young boy, it really scared me.

And Ben Chapman beneath a grotesque rubber suit was the main reason for that.

“So how many minutes would you be in that suit?,” asked a man.

Good Morning from Fango

Saturday February 23rd 2008, 9:20 am by DrGore

P2220008Well its about 9am here at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, its the second day, and hopefully a better one. Friday was a little slow, but it seems like it is every year on Friday. People are still at work and havent come into town yet or something. The guests have been good, but mostly “non” big names, which is good. Sometimes conventions leave out the little guy/gal and we never get to hear from them.

The dealers room is once again great upstairs and very sparse downstairs. Almost a vast wasteland of empty downstairs. The shoved TROMA in the basement once again, and this time our friends at HACK MOVIES have a table downstairs this year too. Nice to see them here and doing good. I tell you, they will be the next TROMA!

Today, there are more panels, more photo ops, and more previews of splatter type flicks coming up this year. Sunday is looking good with the legend Robert Englund showing up!! Nice. I have met and had my picture taken with almost everyone here except for Robert, so that is cool. Plenty of Indie movies downstairs in the film room and plenty of partying will be happening tonight at the celeb bash. Im looking forward to that and meeting up with some yearly friends there too.

So stay tuned for some more pictures throught this weekend and more updates on anything I hear too. Take Care

INTERVIEW: Danial McClinton

Friday February 22nd 2008, 11:45 pm by theangryprincess

dmThe AngryPrincess has graced us with another one of her interviews, this time its with the dark/fantasy artist Danial McClinton. Check it out below…

Tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Danial and I’m 29 from Gainesville Texas. As you can see I paint dark and fantasy art which I just recently found out a few years ago that I have great imagination for it and taught myself to paint. I am currently working on several things a series of paintings based on ghost stories and combining poetry from my friend Raina’s and my art to give them a more personal feel we tell the story and there’s a through darkness I reign calendar.

I read on your website that you taught yourself how to draw. How old were you when your artistic ability began to shine thru?

Well I was very young, I would say about 7 and I remember trying to draw the comics out of the Sunday papers- they weren’t perfect but better than a normal 7 year old. As far as painting I taught myself about 2 years ago.

Were you the one in art class at your elementary school who won all the ribbons on your class projects? Or were you more of a reserved student who kept their talent as a secret to themselves?

No I never won any ribbons but I did get one of my cartoons published in the Texas gazette. I was in art class in high school but we were never encouraged to explore our creativity

You knew your artistic fate was sealed when you saw specific paintings from the artists Luis Royo and Julie Bells. Which portraits were they and what made them stand out to you? What was special enough to grab you and steer you down the fantasy/dark art path?

pic1dmMy favorite Julie Bell (although there are so many from both artists) would be her painting called Monica, and Luis Royo would have to be Dark Thoughts.

Sometimes they say writers as well as artists usually have a muse who inspires them with their work, is that the case for you? If so who in your life is your inspiration?

I actually have one lady Raina’s who does most my modeling but I also have a friend on myspace Rachael Sinn who has allowed me to paint her even though she is not one of my models she is a very gorgeous young lady and has a bright future in modeling.

If you were able to travel back in time to paint the portrait of anyone in the history of the world, who would be?

I think I would love to paint Bettie page

You like to paranormal investigate as well. Any spooky stories you can share with us?

Well I plan on getting into the field in the future but I think that the best ghost stories I’ve heard is of the lady in red which I plan on painting in the future also but she was a gothic girl that went to Georgia state that had no friends and no one wanted to room with her,. One girl decided to give it a try but after a few months decided she was going to secretly move but the gothic girl found out and dressed herself in red and killed herself in the dorm room. They say you can see a red ball of light on the day she killed herself in the dorm.

Do you watch any of the ghost shows that are out there now on cable? Do you agree with them on their way of handling the supernatural?

pic3dsmI like Ghost Hunters (TAPS) because they go in with a skeptics view and basically have the idea that the place is not haunted until they can scientifically prove there is something there. They try and come up with ways things can happen naturally and when they can’t recreate it they realize they might have some paranormal activity going on.

Do you have any psycic abilitys like esp. or have the skills of a medium?

I think everyone does to an extent. I dream a lot and have moments were I dreamed something and then months or years later I am doing something and realize I’ve been there before but don’t know when- but most of my paintings come frame my dreams

What do you believe happens to the human soul after it’s outer shell, being our body dies? Does it forever rest in piece?

I think there is an afterlife but I think at the moment of death you will decide where you as a person will end up.

My final question is one that I try to ask everyone I interview, What’s your favorite horror movie and why?

Well I’m more into vampire and werewolf movies. Out of vampire movies it would have tp be Interview with the Vampire and Salem’s Lot. My favorite werewolf flicks would have to be Gingersnaps and American Werewolf in London

Texas Fear Fest the West Memphis Three

Friday February 22nd 2008, 8:18 am by DrGore

topper1

I just got some info in about the Texas fear Fest. Once again this year, there will be some fund raising going on for the West Memphis Three. Texas Fear Fest is a huge convention and festival held down in Texas..of course..and produced by Pit of Horror. com and Dread Central. com. So with that said, check this out…

We’ll be at Texas Fear Fest 2 (see info below) running an information booth and a silent auction to benefit the West Memphis Three (www.wm3.org). We’re looking for items for the silent auction, and I wondered if you would consider donating something for the auction? We’re doing a ton of press about this collaboration and are happy to help promote anyone who donates or gets involved. See below for info about this event. We could use items such as memorabilia, props, DVDs, clothes or toys with a horror theme, jewelry, clothing, and signed movies/books/posters/scripts, etc. Anything that fans of horror would enjoy bidding on… If you’re attending, come by and say hi. If you have something that isn’t quite the fit for Fear Fest 2, we can use it for Skeleton Key Auctions (www.skeletonkeyauctions.com), which also raises money for the West Memphis Three’s legal defense fund.

December 28, 2007: Dallas, TX - March 7th, 8th, and 9th. Texas Fear Fest (www.txfearfest.com) will be helping to raise money and awareness for the West Memphis Three (www.wm3.org) — three men who have been falsely imprisoned for murder since 1993. Recently completed DNA testing (not available back in 1993) does not match any of the three men, and their many supporters hope to see them freed in the near future. Tammy Adin (coordinator for the West Memphis Three World Awareness Day) and Anje Vela (president of Music4Life) will be teaming up with John Gray of Texas Fear Fest to bring donated items from Skeleton Key Auctions (www. skeletonkeyauctions. com) and other sources for a huge silent auction of memorabilia, artwork and many other items, to raise money for the West Memphis Three’s legal defense fund.

Contact:
John Gray (TX Fear Fest) at fearfesttx@yahoo. com
Tammy Adin (coordinator for the West Memphis Three World Awareness Day) at tammy@mcmsys. com
Anje Vela (President of Music4Life) at velaentertainment@yahoo. com
if you would like to donate an item to the silent auction.

About The West Memphis Three:

Shortly after three eight-year-old boys were found mutilated and murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas, local newspapers stated the killers had been caught. The police assured the public that the three teenagers in custody were definitely responsible for these horrible crimes. Evidence?

The same police officers coerced an error-filled “confession” from Jessie Misskelley Jr. , who is mentally handicapped. They subjected him to 12 hours of questioning without counsel or parental consent, audiotaping only two fragments totaling 46 minutes. Jessie recanted it that evening, but it was too late — Misskelley, Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols were all arrested on June 3, 1993, and convicted of murder in early 1994.

Although there was no physical evidence, murder weapon, motive, or connection to the victims, the prosecution pathetically resorted to presenting black hair and clothing, heavy metal t-shirts, and Stephen King novels as proof that the boys were sacrificed in a satanic cult ritual. Unfathomably, Echols was sentenced to death, Baldwin received life without parole, and Misskelley got life plus 40.

For over 14 years, The West Memphis Three have been imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit. Echols waits in solitary confinement for the lethal injection our tax dollars will pay for. They were all condemned by their poverty, incompetent defense, satanic panic and a rush to judgment.

But there’s still hope for them, and you can help.
