HorrorSociety main Review: Cannibal Flesh Riot

If you want a change in the way horror movies are made and want to see something a bit different than your average flick, you should check this movie out. Cannibal Flesh Riot is the Directorial debut from artist Gris Grimly. Gris has been involved in the horror world for a little while now, but this movie might push him into the spotlight a bit more.

Cannibal Flesh Riot is the story of a couple of Ghouls that go out one night to a cemetery for dinner. Yes Ghouls! Not many movies talk about ghouls like this one. So much so that there is a little beginning info on what a ghoul is and the history of them. Anyway, Dumb and Dumber go out for a bit to eat at the cemetery when they seem to strike up a healthily conversation about life in general. It’s kind of funny to see that even though they are ghouls, they still are living among people like its nothing. Funny stories and witty conversation between the two characters throughout the 30 or so minutes of the flick. Yeah it’s a short one, but well worth it. Many movies should take a lesson from horror shorts, just get down to the point.

So some stuff happens which I wont tell you about, since it ruins shit, but it happens and then the story ends. This movie was good. I like the way the characters actually had something to say and they seemed a bit redneck like as well which added to the humor. Their makeup reminded me a little of the old Nosferatu horror days with the light faces and dark shadows. Very ghoul like if you ask me. There is a bit of stop motion animation thrown in there as well which worked well and didn’t take away from anything. This movie reminds me of a cartoon come to life or a comic book that jumps out of the pages.

Created with only $6,000 this is a good testament to what and how people should go about making a movie. It seemed well planned and well written, so you don’t need much special effects or huge location and crew budgets if you got a good story. I’m real excited to see what else Gris has up his sleeve in the future.

Decent acting from everyone in the flick and one of the best parts was the sound effects. Little tid bits of sound thrown in there to give a little extra to the movie. It seemed to make it even more like you Saturday Morning cartoon. This is the type of movie that you should see at the Drive-In. Its got a real B-Movie type feel to it. For some reason I expected more music to the film. Not sure why, but it just seemed like it would have some kind of soundtrack to it, more so than it did. But other than that, this movie is fun. Well worth the money.
