HorrorSociety shriekfest Death By Engagement Horror Comedy“Stay Single” is the tag line for “Death By Engagement” and words to live by for those who don’t have to file into Tiffany’s this Valentine’s Day. This wild ride of a Horror/Comedy follows a cursed engagement ring that bounces through an ensemble of desperate-to-be-married young women, bringing brutal deaths to all who wear it. Writer/Director Philip Creager came up with the idea when he was about to propose to his fiancé. Philip thought, “Three months salary for this shiny pebble that you find in the ground? Has Cupid been drinking?” And alas, “Death By Engagement” was born.

“Death By Engagement” has left a trail of their “Stay Single” T-shirts across the film festival landscape, with festival wins for Best Slasher in San Francisco, Best Horror in Los Angeles, Best Screenplay and Best Actress in Las Vegas, Best Horror in Melbourne and Best Horror Ensemble Cast in Phoenix.

Cult icon P.J. Soles (”Halloween,” “Carrie,” “Stripes,” “Rock N Roll High School,” and “The Devils Rejects”) stars as the creepy Mrs. Starkington. Cheryl Eddie for The San Francisco Bay Guarden said “… My weakness for anything starring P.J. Soles drew me to Philip Creager’s slick slasher flick.” The list of femme fatals is long. Sascha Knopf plays chick-flick bashing detective Rikki Moore (The Beautiful Tanya Peel from “Shallow Hal” and one of FHM’s 100 Sexiest Females).

Sascha also stars alongside Christian Slater and William H. Macy in “He Was A Quiet Man” that will be premiering in March at the Austin Film Festival. DBE features the soon-to-be Playboy cover girl Christa Campbell as Stacy. Christa can be seen in the “Day of the Dead” remake hitting theaters this spring. Christa’s credits include “Wicker Man” and “2001 Maniacs.” The adorable Iyari Limon, (Kennedy, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) makes her film debut, as does “Veronica Mars’” Ryan Hansen.

What’s unique about “Death By Engagement” is it’s witty dialog and quirky characters in the oftentimes “six kids trapped in a …” horror genre. Robert Shuster, author of “Sevenacide,” compares DBE to “a Quentin Tarantino meets Jason from Friday the 13th.” Fatally yours.com says “Death By Engagement is fun, smart and witty with its fresh take on the slasher genre.”

“Death By Engagement” is Philip Creager’s third film as writer/director.

Pennie Orcutt, executive producer of “Death By Engagement,” teamed up with Philip Creager to form Rounding 3rd Productions. Pennie Orcutt and Philip Creager have a thriller, “Voices In the Dirt,” in the works as their next film project.
