Director Richard Clark, Jr. states, “Horror films these days aren’t like they used to be mainly due to the amounts of special effects they have. That to me isn’t what makes a good horror movie. Horror to me is believable events, events that people believe could actually happen. Horror films like Nightmare on Elm Street , Halloween, and Friday The 13th are supernatural “scary†movies. Grinder is nothing like that. Grinder is true HORROR . Sure, Grinder has its amazing special effects but its not over-used. The gore isn’t what makes this film; it’s simply the characters. We want to go back to the old school horror flicks; back to the time when the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre created nightmares in millions”, says Director Kent Allen.
“We decided to shoot in a digital 24p high def format for the simple fact that we wanted a real to life look. We wanted to take our audience on a journey, as if they were really there living the moment. Many films try to do that, but viewers can tell what looks super “movie-ish” and which do not. Take 2005’s Wolf Creek. To me that is a real life, raw, and live look which was very effective in creating a real life vantage point for the audienceâ€, says Director Kent Allen.
“We feel that Grinder will be the next signature horror classic. Enough of this Hollywood film style “filmmaking”, which don’t get us wrong, for the most part we are major fans. But we just think it is time independent filmmakers, like ourselves, to shine with our new creative views on how horror films should be.â€
