Synapse Films and Roy Frumkes Finally Bring You The STREET TRASH: SPECIAL MELTDOWN EDITION On DVD This September!

streettrash-sm.jpgIn Synapse Films’ entire history, no film has generated as much excitement and fan frenzy as STREET TRASH. When we initially announced acquisition of the title in 2001, we promised a full-fledged special edition that would make everyone happier than a pig in slop. STREET TRASH writer/producer Roy Frumkes soon began work on THE MELTDOWN MEMOIRS, a comprehensive new documentary on the making of STREET TRASH and of New York independent filmmaking in the 1980s, and fans eagerly waited for its completion. It’s taken a while, but the STREET TRASH SPECIAL MELTDOWN EDITION is finally here and is easily Synapses most ambitious DVD to date. If you picked up last years critically praised movie-only edition you got but a mere taste of what this 2-disc set delivers in spades.

In the sleazy, foreboding world of winos, derelicts and drifters in lower Manhattan, two young runaways eighteen-year-old Fred (Mike Lackey) and his younger brother, Kevin (Mark Sferrazza), live in a tire hut in the back of a vast auto wrecking yard. Fred is burnt-out by the forces that destroyed his family life, whereas Kevin, having missed much of their childhood trauma, yearns to get back into society and lead a normal life. The most lethal threat to the boys is the case of Tenafly Viper in Eds liquor store widow. Ed found the cheapo wine behind a wall in his basement. The stuffs forty years old, and its gone real bad. Anyone who drinks it melts within seconds! And it’s only a dollar a bottle!! The bums are lining up for their deaths like moths at a flame, and Fred standing right there amongst them.
