Wizard of Gore Remake

Friday September 29th 2006, 2:05 pm by DrGore

Now here a new one for you. Anyone like the remakes?? Yeah, that’s what I thought. But here one that really looks like it could be something good.

Remember Herschell Gordon Lewis' Wizard of Gore. Well it is being re-done by Open Sky Entertainment in association with Sick-O-Scope, and it looks like they have given this one a facelift for the new generation.

Glammed up in clubs, bars, and underground weird watering holes, the Wizard (played by Crispin Glover) performs his nightly magic/illusion act on sexy females (mostly played by Suicide Girls) and then magically dismember them to the crowd’s amazement. Then of course they show up later in the same form as they appeared on stage. Well, I wonder who could have done that.

I think this one is looking to be a winner, simply because of the ultra-creepy Crispin Glover and a cameo from Jeffery Combs.

We will keep you up to date on this one, so for now, check out some links…

New World Horror

Wednesday September 27th 2006, 11:35 pm by DrGore

From the looks of the trailer at their MySpace page, "Rise of the Flatline" is not your average horror movie. What seems to be some people stranded out in the woods and being attacked by some crazy hillbilly weirdoes (you know the old plot stand by) and trying to run for their lives, takes a different twist and throws some kind of zombie, or virus laden freaks after them as well. So far this is not just your standard "in the woods" story.

This looks to be an original take on your standard scary movie plot line. Filled with some sort of crazed individuals after one another, this movie is gearing up to be a winner. New World Horror Productions is the team from Jay Vaz, Jessica Weaver, Lisa Cotrone, and Mike Vaz. The team started 3 years ago born out of boredom from Jay Vaz's job at an abandoned hospital as a security guard. From that experience he realized he was destined to make movies. Jay is a self taught movie maker, but from the looks of the trailer, he has learned well.

"You can’t teach someone to have the eye and the heart for filmmaking. Either you got it or you don’t. That's why so many film students waste thousands of dollars in school just to go work in front of a desk for the rest of their lives. They didn’t have the true passion" - Jay Vaz

Well said!

They are currently looking for actors for a music video in the works, so any of you future Brad Pitts give them a ring!!

Check out their links below, and we will keep you updated on the latest from "New World Horror"

Lionsgate After Horror

Wednesday September 27th 2006, 9:53 pm by DrGore

Looking to expand its pipeline and heap on more horror, Lionsgate has partnered with After Dark Films –producer of "An American Haunting" — to turn out a slate of films intended for wide release, along with some specialty titles. Three-year production and distribution deal follows the box office success of "Haunting," ADF's first release after its formation by filmmaker-producer Courtney Solomon and Hong Kong-based real estate billionaire Allan Zeman. Pic, which opened in May on 1,700 screens, has grossed $16.5 million domestically. Solomon wrote and directed.

Pact with Lionsgate has three components. The first calls for ADF, which has offices in L.A. and Hong Kong, to provide three wide-release pics a year and up to two specialty films. ADF's taste departs from Lionsgate's usual horror fare, with "American Haunting" having more of an indie flavor than the "Saw" and "Hostel" franchises.

Lionsgate will market and distribute the pics, with ADF putting up all the money for prints and advertising. Lionsgate will have worldwide distrib rights on most of the films, as well as all ancillary rights….

Davy Jones Mask

Tuesday September 26th 2006, 10:27 pm by DrGore

Davy Jones MaskSo here is a messed up story I found on the net. It does'nt really have that much to do with movies, but its worth writing about anyway. For some reason this is a popular Halloween mask this year…so popular that people are paying outrageous amounts of money for this thing. I can understand some kids wanting this, but adults are forking over the money for this and keeping it like its some kind of Treasure. Anyway here is the story…

Despite many companies’ claims to have access to Davy Jones masks and costumes, they are not available from the company that originally licensed them. Customers must be wary about ordering this item if it is not listed as “currently in stock” or “ready to ship” to avoid waiting for a mask that may never arrive. Some confusion exists about the availability of costumes and masks from the popular film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Although several online e-tailers claim to have the deluxe, octopus-faced mask and/or Davy’s sea-grimy costume, when customers place an order, they are often told that these items are not currently available. Depending on where they ask, the mask may be “on backorder,” “due any day,” or “out of stock for the season.” Bloggers are being polled for guidance in finding them.

In truth, according to one e-tailer, the mask is available, but only at a few outlets. “Disney pulled the plug on the licensing,” said James Burke, owner of SpookShop.com. “We ordered both the mask and the costume early in the season, but have not – and will not – receive any of them.” Apparently, the licensing agreement between Disney and Disguise, the costume company offering the items, failed. One small shipment of about 500 pieces came in to a distributor, who sold out quickly. Customers may have to pay a premium - of seven online stores that claim to have the mask, prices ranged from $49.95 to a whopping $149.99.
For a list of e-tailers that may have Davy Jones in stock, please contact Customer Service at www.spookshop.com.

A Bunch of DVD Releases

Tuesday September 26th 2006, 9:20 pm by DrGore

Its a big day for the DVD releases. First up we have the 75th anniversary edition of Dracula. Everyones favorite vampire. Then the Dark Shadows DVD Collection #26, followed by the 75th anniversary edition of Frankenstein as well. Also the lovable and rather wacky Munsters two movie fright fest. TCM is getting a bit of a makover with the 2-Disc Ultimate Chainsaw Edition DVD, and last but not least there is Takishi Miike's infamous banned Masters of Horror episode..Imprint.

Well with all of these coming out, it looks like you got some shopping to do later!! Make sure to grab Imprint, and tell me what you think about it. I have seen it and noticed that all of the hype is not living up to itself. But then again, it is a great story and Miike has done another great movie. Just not great enough to be banned in my opinion!

Try and get out of this Closet

Monday September 25th 2006, 10:40 pm by DrGore

Texas is a big state, and there seems to be some big projects coming from there. Maybe it’s something in the water or maybe it’s just the cowboy mentality that is deep down in peoples subconscious that makes them driven to produce horror films. Or maybe it’s nothing, and there happens to be some talented people in Texas. Anyway, here is another gem coming from the Lone Star State….Closet Space.

This one is from the talented and what looks like to be really busy, director and horror freak, Mel House. Mel and his crew have put together a shocker of a horror flick.

Synopsis:
"What happens when the hunger for knowledge comes up against the insatiable hunger for flesh? Six grad students learn the answer as they explore the depths of the Closet Space……"

Basically there are some students that are trying to find their missing professor and in the process that stumbles upon something which I can only guess is a closet. Hence the title Closet Space. The students ultimately get lost and struggle to survive and from what the pictures on the website conclude….something else more gruesome than they could ever imagine. Looks and sounds like a winner to me!! It has been getting some press lately from the big sites and the director will be representing the film at the Fangoria Convention coming up soon.

Check out below for more info….

Fight of the Dead

Friday September 22nd 2006, 11:09 pm by DrGore

This just in….Pat and Kurt are living a normal day when suddenly a news report comes on saying that strange and vicious attacks across the nation is occurring and that the attackers are eating their victims. Pat and Kurt say this sounds like something out of a Romero film. They get a bat and a Hockey stick and run outside only to be greeted by a few dozen zombies. They get in their car after battling their way out and end up running into an Emotionally Wrecked Woman named Mary, A pissed off man who just wants to stay in the basement Eric Edwards, Eric's wife Ellen Edwards, Jerry the nephews of the owners house and his girl friend Stacy.

Pat and Kurt are the only ones that know that these are zombies everyone else is in the state of mind that they've never seen a zombie film and that they have no idea what is happening. Pat and Kurt make a few plans of how to escape the house and get sum help, but everyone see their plans as insane and unrealistic ideas of escaping. So they must fight or die to survive!

Welcome to Fight of the Dead.

This is the plot outline for a new no budget indie horror movie by 17 year old Pat. He and his crew worked on a script for more than a year, polishing and refining it until its perfect. So far it sounds as if they are on there way. They describe the film as an Americanized version of Shaun of the Dead, but 10x as funny, with 10x the action and gore. “It’s basically a mix of Jay and Silent Bob jammed in with Night of the Living Dead, some have referred to it as Bill and Ted mixed in with a Zombie flick”

Well they have their work cut out for them, but I’m sure they are more than ready.

This film is now in production and we will keep you up to date with any news about Fight of the Dead!!
