Old School Sinema

Thursday August 31st 2006, 9:06 pm by DrGore

Here’s an original idea from Old School Sinema. Take a bunch of horror fans at a convention, walk around and videotape them, then kill them off one by one, and you got yourself a flick!! "The Horror Convention Massacre" is just that film. Shot guerilla style at a real horror convention, Joe Ostrica (writer/director/producer) and his crew from Old School got an idea for a film simply from being a fan of the genre. After numerous trips to conventions, this idea of using the fans of horror movies and truly bringing them into the film by using them in the film was born. This one is sure to please the fans that also dig "similar shot" horror classics like "Blair Witch" and "El Mariachi", but with enough violence, gore, and nudity to please any and all fans of the true 70's and early 80's slasher flicks. Ostrica and company shot an exploitation indie slasher film on a shoestring budget with a high concept: a maniac is on the loose knocking off guests and fans at a horror convention. By doing this they landed some big names for cameos, including Lew Temple ("The Devil's Rejects," the upcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning"), Ari Lehman (the original Jason from "Friday the 13th") and indie icon Lloyd Kaufman of Troma fame. This film will be screening at the Cinema Wasteland Horror Convention in Cleveland OH October 6-8. You will find me (DrGore) and Sammaeal there to witness the carnage and chaos that is "The Horror Convention Massacre"!! Hopefully we won't be unsuspecting guinea pigs, being round up and conned into watching this, then actually be a part of the sequel….if so, this might be my last article!! Stay tuned for an interview with Joe from Old School Sinema soon. :) Official Website MySpace Page Cinema Wasteland Website

VOLK, yes that’s right VOLK!

Thursday August 31st 2006, 8:03 pm by DrGore

Alright, check this fuc*king guy out. His name is VOLK, and crazy, dark, madness sound is his game. And he is on top of it for sure. Volk is a musician, but some people really might not think that what they are hearing is really music. Although there are lyrics, beats, and some kind of form and structure to his madness, it is a little hard to hear.

And that is the beauty of it. For me personally, this stuff sends chills up my spine. Any fan of electronic, experimental and death metal should check this out. Volk has a definite niche sound to him and he pulls it off well. Most of the music, really is just noise that is arranged together to make it sound like some kind of nightmare you had last night, but he does that well. Very dark sinister and all around noise that seems to put you in a state of fear if you listen to it. A true Indie musician, he takes what he likes and turns it into something that some people can really appreciate. Just like the picture of him, his music is about the same. Unforgiving, dark, sinister, and really quite odd.

If you are a fan of experimental music/noise and want to check this out, head over to his Myspace account and listen to a few of the tracks that he has available. The first is a mixture of dark vocals and black metal. The second track is almost like a satanic chant of some kind. The third track is my personal favorite. A very well organized mixture of beats, horror movie sound clips, and more noise. The last track is a bit more on the funky side. This one he uses more of the familiar beats and drums but blends them well into the noise that is oh so familiar.

Frightworld features five different haunted houses with new attractions added each year. Frightworld is open from the first week in September to Halloween. Addicted to Gellar

Thursday August 31st 2006, 6:02 am by DrGore

03-sarah-gellar-grudge.jpgIt seems that Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar just can’t leave those horror films alone - now she’s signed up to another chiller Addicted. The blonde stunner is already famed for her roles in scary flicks I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Grudge. Addicted will see Sarah as a woman whose life is flung into chaos when her hubby and brother-in-law are involved in a freak car accident, according to Variety.

Both of them end up in deep comas - but when her brother-in-law wakes, he’s convinced that he’s Sarah’s husband. The thriller is loosely based on the 2002 South Korean film Jungdok, and has been written by Queen of the Damned’s Michael Petroni. Directed by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist, it should hit our screens in 2008.

Sarah has just finished filming yet another spooky film, The Return. She plays a travelling businesswoman who finds herself drawn to an old farmhouse, where a murder took place years before. The Sequel to The Grudge is reportedly in post-production, but Sarah has also appeared in diverse films such as children’s hit Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, as well as her numerous TV appearances.

Blood and Scorpions?

Thursday August 31st 2006, 4:36 am by DrGore

scorpions-0001.jpg

You remember the 80’s glam rock band…the Scorpions. No, thats alright, I didnt either. But it looks like the lead singer of the band is going to be doing up the score for the new film “Brotherhood of Blood”. The Geman born Rocker of all things 80’s metal has been making a name for himself as a horror film composer. He has also scored spoof movie “Drive Thru”.

Rieckerman says, “I love horror movies, and I love to work on them. I saw a rough cut of Brotherhood of Blood and I instantly knew this was the movie I was looking for. It’s a very interesting new approach to the hunters versus vampires story.” Brotherhood of Blood stars THE DEVIL’S REJECTS star SID HAIG and JASON CONNERY. Brotherhood of Blood is a claustrophobic thriller about a team of vampire hunters who infiltrate a nest of undead to rescue one of their own. While starring some of the Devils Rejects cast here is the run down of the rest of the actors in the project.

Barricade

Wednesday August 30th 2006, 11:05 am by Dawnrazor

Nina (Raine Brown) is visiting her longtime friend Michael (Joseph Zaso) and his pal David (André Reissig) in Germany for a much needed vacation. The trio decides that, to get their mind off their day-to-day lives, a camping trip into the nearby Black Forest will do them all well. Little do they know, a clan of bloodthirsty ghouls also calls this area of the woods their home - and they don’t take kindly to strangers impeding on their land! As the bodies begin piling up, the friends’ innocent vacation becomes a horrific battle for survival. The cannibalistic monsters know the forest better than anyone… and their victims are in for the fight of their lives.

That is the synopsis for “Barricade” the upcoming film from German director Timo Rose, the man behind Lord of the Undead and the Mutation Trilogy. Taking the basic plot of The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, Just Before Dawn, etc and turning the gore up to 11this one looks to be a lot of fun.

With a cast that includes Raine,(Horror, Satan’s Playground, Plasterhead), Brown, Joe, (Nikos the Impaler, And Then They Were Dead), Zaso and Andre, (Rigor Mortis-The Final Colors), Reissig shooting was recently completed and the film heads to postproduction and hopefully soon to a wide release.

For more info, check out the film’s site at http://www.myspace.com/barricademovie .And Timo’s site at http://www.myspace.com/timorose

RIP PSYCHO scripter Joseph Stefano

Tuesday August 29th 2006, 8:46 pm by Dawnrazor

stefano.jpgAugust 29: RIP PSYCHO scripter Joseph Stefano

Fango has learned the sad news that screenwriter Joseph Stefano, who scripted Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO, died this past Friday, August 25 in hospital after suffering a fall the previous Monday. He was 84 years old. In adapting Robert Bloch’s novel into the classic and influential film story of murderous mama’s boy Norman Bates, Stefano helped create an enduring screen icon; his PSYCHO script won an Edgar Award in 1961 and was named one of the 101 Greatest Screenplays by the members of the Writers Guild of America last year.

Stefano also penned the Mick Garris-directed 1990 TV movie PSYCHO IV: THE BEGINNING, which examined Norman’s early years, and worked with director Gus Van Sant on the latter’s ill-fated 1998 remake of Hitch’s milestone. The screenwriter’s other genre credits include episodes of both the ’60s and ’90s incarnations of THE OUTER LIMITS, the 1987 monster opus THE KINDRED, 1969’s EYE OF THE CAT, the 1988 direct-to-video feature BLACKOUT and the made-for-TV horror movies HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS (1972, featuring a young Sally Field) and SNOWBEAST (1977).

The White Lie Cover Art

Tuesday August 29th 2006, 2:35 pm by DrGore

sm-twlcover-1.jpgWell it looks like the official DVD cover for Ron DeCaro’s movie “The White Lie” is up and running. Its the extreme limited edition of the movie and the cover is just about as gory as the movie itslef. Ron DeCaro is the brains and blood behind the design. His first movie effort…Eating Razors: A Love Story…is a tale of love, lonliness, and of course razors. This next movie The White Lie is something a bit more, well, lets just say its A LOT more of everything. Much better movie this time around and if you really want a little more about it, check out the HS review of it HERE.

But of course reading about it only gets you so far, so I suggest going to his site and buying it. Its not that much money and for what you get it’s well worth it! Read on for the DVD specs, where to buy the movie, and be sure to click on the cover up there for a larger picture…

The Stink of Flesh

Monday August 28th 2006, 5:04 pm by DrGore

242727.jpgNow here is a zombie movie with a catchy title! The Stink of Flesh is not your average zombie movie. Imagine a world that is over-run by zombies…not hard to imagine right? Throw a guy in there that is just trying to survive from day to day. Then have him get kidnapped by a crazy couple and you got yourself a movie. Not only is there good zombies, blood, and some flesh eating…but you got a different more suspenceful plot line as well.

Combining those 2 elements and a few others as well (I dont want to spoil all of the fun) and you got yourself a good zombie flick.

Check out the synopsis below and read on for the trailer!!

“Wandering a zombie wasteland, Matool survives by his wits and animal instinct, often employing his trusty hammer and gigantic nails to fend off the ravenous hordes of flesh-eating undead. But when he is kidnapped by a mysterious couple, Matool must rely on an entirely different weapon in his arsenal to survive…”

In the far…far… and wild… wild… west, during the gold rush. LOUD JACKSON, ex-confederate army colonel and RAMON SANCHEZ, a fearless head hunter team up to help Apache chief HEAVY FEATHER defend his ancestral lands from the greedy hordes of Gold diggers.
…with nothing but a fistful of zombies…

Grab your arms, legs, load up your colts and crawl into battle!
Dead or alive, it doesn’t matter. This is about guts…
